America runs out of Subaru vehicles! It is reported that there were about 39, 235 vehicles sold during the first 6 months of 2013 thus leaving a 42 percent increase compared to June 2012’s sales record. The increase was from the sales of the Forrester and Outback models. Because of this happening, Takeshi Tachimori, chief executive of Subaru for North America Inc., forecasted a shortage of the models for this year, if the trend continues. Forrester and Outback Sales Increase
The sales increase for Forrester and Outback for the month of June was the best ever recorded sales for both models’ history. Sales for Forrester totaled 10, 170 which is 41 percent higher than the model’s sale in June 2012. It became the choice of many drivers for it was rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as the best 2013 vehicle in the safety category, despite its smaller built as compared its other SUV counterparts. In addition, sales for Outback vehicles reached 12, 210 in number just for the month of June. It is higher than June 2012’s sales at 32 percent.
This inspired the manufacturer from creating more Subaru vehicles for the masses and it will be more exciting this time. It will be launching its first ever hybrid this 2013 and is hoping to get the same response from buyers. Other Subaru models like Impreza, Legacy and Tribeca contributed to the sales increase, too. For the record, Impreza reached a total of 5,210 vehicles sold, Legacy with 4,363 sold vehicles, and Tribeca with 144 vehicles sold.
Reaching the U.S. Sales for 2013
The manufacturer achieved its strong sales record since 2009 and it was just last year that it exceeded its annual sale. Its sales record reached more than 300,000 vehicles sold. It was the first time of the company and the first time in its history. Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer of Subaru, pointed out that the good driving performance and the green features of their vehicles made them reach that far. He was grateful and pleased by the response of their buyers. Also, he is hoping to get the attention of more buyers upon the release of the all new hybrid vehicles. It will add strength to the current lineup of Subaru cars. This is also a response to their buyers’ demand for durability, versatility and safety. The auto plant of note is the Hofu plant in the Yamaguchi prefecture of Japan. This production facility began producing cars in 1982, and has since seen another plant built on its footprint to boost productivity of Mazdas of all types. By 1986, the plant had already produced 1,000,000 cars.
That was something of a milestone in itself, but better was yet to come. By 2002, the Hofu facility had churned out an eye opening 5,000,000 Mazda vehicles. It took a little over 11 years for the plant to double that number. The other numbers are nothing to scoff at, but 10,000,000 really eliminates all doubt about Mazda being a major player. When one is done being impressed by the largeness of the numbers, sobering thoughts may occur. Is 10,000,000 vehicles too many? Will the next 10,000,000 come even faster? What will we do with 20,000,000 Mazda vehicles? Will they have an environmental impact?
Many of these Mazdas will be sold, re-sold, finally wear out, find their way to salvage yards, become sources of spare parts for other Mazdas, and get crushed up and recycled in a variety of ways. In the meantime, they will offer remarkably sound transportation to millions of people.

GMC, otherwise known as General Motors, has recently revealed what its new full sized SUVs, the Chevy Suburban, the Chevy Tahoe, and the GMC Yukon, the Yukon XL, and the Yukon Denali will look like, feel like, and feature from a technological standpoint by the time 2015 rolls around. The common denominator seems to be better aerodynamic design, more sophisticated and motion-efficient powertrains, enhanced connectivity, and a more refined general package. According to our local GMC shop, Pitre GMC in Albuquerque, GMC has been planning a redesign for all of their SUV models in 2015, and some of them, such as the Yukon, will be available as soon as early 2014.
The rollover protection of SUVs has always been a concern, and GMC and Chevy are increasing their design response to this safety issue, addressing their design response to the problem by creating vehicles which feature, as they term it, “a more planted stance.” These vehicles will have a stronger overall body-on-frame profiles and generally have wider rear racks – both of which should yield better stability, handling, and safety.
Engine wise, all of these SUvs feature an ECoTec3 powertrain. These systems have a 5.3 liter V8 engine capable of putting out 355 horsepower. The one exception here is that the GMC Yukon Denali has a 6.2 liter V8 (which churns out an impressive 420 horsepower). These are hooked up to Hydra-Matic 6L80 6 – speed transmissions. These engines also have continuously variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, and cylinder deactivation.
How are they as regards fuel efficiency? We’ll have to wait a little longer for those stats. They haven’t been made available to the general public yet. But the word on the street is that these vehicles will use their new aerodynamic design emphasis to good advantage as far as fuel consumption is concerned. The new Tahoes, Yukons, and Suburbans will also use electric power steering, which is, in fact, a new feature for these SUVs. This will also help to boost the mileage profile. One hopes that the improvement on this level will be something more than a mile or two per gallon, but again, we’ll have to be patient.
Though the outside front ends are all different, there are some common body features that run through the list – inlaid doors to improve aerodynamics, liftgate panels and hoods made lighter by being composed of aluminum, and entirely different materials in general than were used in the bodies of GMC and Chevy pickup trucks.
Inside, the big innovation seems to to fold-flat third row seats. These are new to all three models. So now both the second and third row seats are flat-fold-able. There is even an optional power folding feature allowing the user to do this automatically. On top of this there are lots of new electrical outlets and USB ports in all three models, and even SD card slots in the Yukon.
Overall, there doesn’t seem to be anything earth shatteringly new about the 2015 GMC and Chevy SUVs, but there are definitely some noteworthy improvements.
